There are many species of the majestic tiger family. Each one is uniquely colored and well adpated to their environment. The tiger is an intelligent and developed animal that has lived on the earth since their saber toothed tiger ancestors. They are both fascinating creatures, and strong superior leaders in their environment.Try to imagine the forests in South China, Asia, and India with very few plants left. This could happen if tigers and any other large animals weren't populating the forests and hunting in their environments. There would be less natural resources, and of course, the herbivores would start to die out from loss of food. Tigers used to live in many places around the world, but now their environment is severly diminished. When you read this page, you can learn more about the life of the tiger, more about why hunters and poachers kill tigers, as well as what you can do to help save the remaining tigers.

Let's face it, everyone loves tigers. They are beautiful animals. It would be horrible to watch such an amazing species of animal disappear from our planet. We chose this topic because tiger exctinction is serious. Poachers kill tigers for their skin and their body parts. We want to stop tiger poaching, and help keep the tigers alive!

What are the species of tigers, and which tiger species are already extinct?

As many know, it is a sad fact that many tiger species are no longer in existence. In fact, the Bali, Caspian< and Javan tiger species are already extinct. The remaining tiger species are already extinct. The remaining tiger species are dangerously close to dying out. The tiger species that has been in the most danger of extinction is the South China tiger. The living tiger species are the Bengal tiger which is the most populated, the Siberian tiger which is the largest tiger, the Sumatran tiger which is the smallest and has the most stripes, and the Indochinese tigers. The range of land that tigers occupy has shrank 40% since 1995. Three species are extinct and three species are almost extinct.

What is the habitat of a tiger like?

Tigers have similar needs in comparison to human needs, or the necessities of any other animal. Obviously, they need cover or shelter, water, and food. However, tigers are unique because they need extensive areas of territory. They usually never spend two nights in the same place, for they mover around to find different prey to hunt. A male tiger usually likes to have 60 to 100 square kilometers of land to claim their own, while females require close to 20 square kilometers of land. The males are very proud of their land where they hunt for food, and consider intruders a threat to their authority. They even scent the borders of their territories so other wild tigers know not to trespass. Because of the tiger's demand for land, it clearly makes it difficult for the tiger family to have a stable population. Farmers and countrymen will eliminate tigers so that they can safely build farms on new land for manufacturers in the widely expanding populated cities. As our population increases, it is inevitable for the tiger population to decrease. Currently, tigers line in small parts of India, Asia, Siberia, Indonesia, Borneo, the Philippines, China, and Russia.

Why do people kill tigers?

From a poacher's point of view, there are many reasons to kill tigers. Poachers kill tigers for their body parts, which include organs, bones, and other body parts. They also kill tigers for their skin for coats, blankets, ect. Tiger parts are also used in certain Chinese medicines. Farmers and countrymen are constantly killing tigers for land. Farmers and countrymen also kill the animals tigers eat which include wild boar and antelope, so the tigers don't have enough prey to eat, which could lower the population. There were once 80 tiger skins and 31 skeletons found in China! Tiger poaching is serious and we need to stop poachers.

How can people help prevent tiger poaching?

Many countries support the programs that help protect tigers from tiger poaching. To help save the tiger population, they close markets that sell tiger parts and close down tiger farms. Without the need for tiger parts in the markets, there is no need to hunt or raise tigers for medicines, foods, clothing, or other uses. Another act to stop tiger part trading is by preventing the commercialization of tiger parts. The programs that stop poaching are helping countries to enforce the laws that stop hunters from hunting tigers and support federal tiger support programs. One thing people can do to help is by donating to the "WWF" or other tiger poaching prevention programs in their efforts to convince people that killing tigers for their parts is wrong.

How would tiger extinction impact the world?

Not everyone who harms the population of tigers and other endangered animals understands just how important they are. If tiger extinction were to occur, it would mean overpopulation of herbivores which would lead to the vegetation found in forests becoming diminished. With less food and vegetation for these animals, there is a greater chance that the population of herbivore life forms would go down. Also, tigers tend to pick out the unhealthy or sickly animals when they hunt. This means that those animals won't produce more unhealthy animals in their environment. The combination of these things means big changes in the balance of the food chain and the population of the ecosystem.
